Bio

Kate W. Sherman is an aspiring author and avid reader of romance and fantasy novels. Her day job as a statistician uses analytical brainpower so after work, she likes to stretch her creative muscles with writing and reading. She loves a morally grey man. However, after dating enough of them in her college days, she decided to they should remain fictional and found herself a sunshiny husband. Sherman resides in Pennsylvania with said husband and their spoiled rescue dog. Her world building is often influenced by places and cultures she has visited. Having been to over 30 countries, she describes her travel style as “eat everything” and “look at cool buildings”. Depending on weather and budget, she has also been known to enjoy a history museum or a scenic view.

Favorite Tropes and Genres

Some of Kate’s favorite tropes are enemies to lovers and arranged marriages. Her all-time favorite micro-trope is “oops only one bed”.

Recently, Kate W. Sherman has been focused on romantasy and romance in her reading and writing. She loves anything with dragons, strong female characters, and magic academies. In paranormal fantasy, she prefers vampires to most shifters, except for dragon shifters. Outside of fantasy, she loves a good mafia or billionaire romance novel.

Writing Influences and Favorite Books

Some of the most influential books of her young adulthood were those by Tamora Pierce, who inspires her to write strong female characters and push gender norm boundaries in her everyday life. Growing up, she had a long-lasting obsession with a famous YA wizarding school series. The Nightworld series by L.J. Smith and The Kiesha’ra series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes were her entry into the romantasy genre as a teen and remain some of her favorites.

More recently, she has loved the Serpent & Dove series by Shelby Mahurin and the Dragons of Ember Hallow series by Tessa Hale. Like many romantasy fans, she is heavily influenced by the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas. There are too many recent favorites to list, but you can keep up to date with Kate’s reading on her reading blog.
